Two waves. One pump station.

A standing-wave machine that catches the water leaving the first wave and stands a second one up in it. Same lift, same water — twice the surfers.

The idea

Most wave pools throw half the energy away.

A sheet-flow standing wave works by pumping water up and letting it run down a ramp into slower water. The collision holds a wave in one place. It is a good trick, and it is expensive, because every litre has to be lifted before it can be surfed. At the bottom of the ride that water is still moving — and in a conventional pool the momentum is simply thrown back into the reservoir.

UpSurfDown puts a second wave generator in the backflow. A deflector turns the outflow of the first wave and feeds it, still carrying its residual head, into a second ramp set lower down. The capacity of the site doubles. The pump station does not.
